Call now to let the utility companies know that you’re moving. Ask to have all utilities taken out of your name the day of closing and avoid paying the buyer's bills for their first month in your former home. By removing your name, you will be relinquishing financial responsibility for any future billings. Within the same phone call, you may be able to connect your utilities at your new Anchorage home. Click Utilities and Services to make these changes in electric, water, gas, trash pickup, and recycling services.
In addition, you will want to contact your TV, internet, and phone service to see what you can continue, disconnect, or reconnect at your new home. A list of local providers is available under Utilities and Services.
If you are buying in a condo building, check with the homeowner's association or property management company to see if they have any special instructions regarding utilities.
Lastly, you have a security system, schedule it to be shut off the day before closing.
